Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about our services? Find the information you need to prepare your first appointment in the list below. Can’t find the information you need? Talk to our practice member coordinators.
Do I see the doctor in person or online?
We are primarily a virtual practice so most visits are conducted online through Zoom. We do have a small office space if Dr. Radawi feels it is necessary to see someone in person. The other reason for in-person visits is if someone lives in a state other than Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, or Kentucky. This would require an in-person visit to get established and then at least once per year while continuing to be cared for by our team.
Can I make an appointment for individual services/treatments?
Our treatment approach for new patients is through a program. We feel this is the best way to address all aspects of your well-being and help you increase success in achieving your health goals. We are not a practice that treats individual symptoms. We use a comprehensive systems biology approach for uncovering underlying causes of illness and disease and then, through lifestyle changes, functional medicine tools, education and support, we help you achieve your goals and attain optimal health. Once you have completed a program, you will be invited to become a member of our practice to continue your care and maintain your results.
Do I need to see the health coach at your office?
Yes. Our health coaches are trained to work specifically with functional medicine physicians, and they are here to assist with the delivery of all our programs. They will guide you along your way and help you get through situations that can be very complicated and hard to manage without the right support.
Can I get all the tests I need through Tri-Cities Functional Medicine?
We use LabCorp through Evexia Diagnostics. Once you become a member, our doctor will order needed labs then you choose a Labcorp location convenient for you to have the labs drawn. We also do various functional testing which is shipped straight to your home. These test are either completed at home or, if a blood draw is needed, you will choose mobile phlebotomy or take it to a specified lab for the blood draw. Some tests can be done through conventional laboratories, while other tests are only available through specialty laboratories. During your initial medical consultation, your doctor will determine which tests you’ll need, review the relevant instructions (for example, whether you’ll need to fast or not), as well as the costs.
We’ll take into account the level of testing you want, as well as your financial resources, in making a plan. We frequently order tests to assess things like nutritional status, including amino acids, fatty acids, oxidative stress, vitamin levels, mitochondrial function, food allergies, and heavy metals. We can also arrange many other tests, including genetic testing, hormone evaluations, bone health, gastrointestinal health, adrenal function, and more. Your doctor will explain everything.
Some testing can be performed at home with test kits to collect urine, saliva, or stool. Others may require you to go to a local laboratory We will assist you in coordinating both initial and follow-up testing. Please note that while testing gives a better insight into your status, we can deliver effective care without it or conduct testing over time. Don’t let that stop you from seeing us.
Do functional medicine doctors prescribe medicines?
Yes. Our doctor can, and will, prescribe medications when necessary. He is a fully licensed and board-certified medical doctor with a background in family medicine and emergency medicine.
